What kind of events does the Sofitel Skipper suit?
It is not a hotel for large conventions, and it is worth saying so clearly. Its strengths are mid-sized meetings and seminars, leadership committees and incentive trips for groups of 30 to 150 people who want a five-star hotel with the beach and Port Olímpic on foot. It also works as a second hotel for a large convention held at another venue in the area.
Rooms and capacities
Sofitel lists nine adaptable rooms on a dedicated meetings floor. According to the hotel's listing on the Barcelona Convention Bureau, the largest are Barceloneta (169 m²) and Nova Icària (156 m²), both for 150 people theatre-style, 80 classroom-style and 120 for a banquet. Mar Bella (150 m²) and Bogatell (140 m²) hold around 100 people theatre-style. For committees there are rooms of 23 to 55 m².
The most distinctive space is the El Cielo rooftop, at 525 m², for drinks receptions of up to 120 people. Sources publish overall figures that do not match (up to 600 or 800 guests), so in the data panel we only give capacities by room.
Getting there
The hotel is at Avinguda del Litoral, 10, next to Port Olímpic. The nearest metro station is Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica (L4), with a tram in the same area. For group arrivals from the airport we recommend a coach.
Production tips
- Match the format to the space. For 150 people, a plenary in Barceloneta and workshops in the small rooms on the same floor works well. Above that number, choose another hotel.
- Check ceiling heights. Some rooms have ceilings under 3 m: this limits large screens and vertical staging.
- Book the rooftop with margin. It is outdoors with limited capacity. Keep it for the welcome drinks or the VIP group.
- Hold dinner elsewhere. The Port Olímpic and Barceloneta area has plenty of options for group dinners.
What works well nearby
The Hotel Arts Barcelona is a few minutes' walk away and covers the large formats the Skipper cannot. The W Barcelona, at the other end of Barceloneta, is another option for presentations with sea views.
