What kind of event does the W Barcelona suit?
Few buildings in Barcelona are recognised so quickly in a photo. That is why the W Barcelona works especially well for product launches, conventions for technology and consumer brands, and incentive trips where the hotel is part of the experience. For conventions of 300 to 700 people it offers plenary, breakout rooms, drinks and accommodation in the same building.
Rooms and capacities
The main space is the Great Room, at 968 m²: 750 people theatre-style, 700 for a banquet, 600 classroom-style and 800 for drinks. It divides into three rooms of 286 to 396 m² and has a 514 m² foyer for registration, sponsor exhibitions or coffee breaks.
For smaller groups there is a 324 m² Mega Room (240 theatre-style) and nine Studios of 72 to 126 m², designed for workshops of 30 to 100 people. The hotel has several terraces: the Great Room terrace (400 m²), the Altitude Terrace (1,250 m², up to 600 for drinks) and the Sun Deck (520 m²). In total, the official website lists 21 event spaces. Getting there
The hotel is on Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents, at the end of Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 18 km from the airport according to the chain itself. Barceloneta metro station (L4) is too far to walk with a group, so we arrange shuttles from hotels or from the airport.
Production tips
- Allow for the wind. The terraces are right on the seafront. Plan ballast for set pieces and an enclosed indoor alternative in the contract.
- Coordinate access. The hotel has heavy traffic from guests and nightlife. Ask for a specific loading access and set-up time, especially if you are bringing staging or large screens.
- Separate work and celebration. A good sequence is a plenary in the Great Room, sunset drinks on the terrace and dinner at another venue in the city.
- Manage natural light. Some spaces get a lot of daylight. If you are projecting, consider screen positions and blackout before finalising the floor plan.
What works well nearby
The World Trade Center Barcelona, in Port Vell, is a good alternative venue for working sessions with harbour views. The Hotel Arts is the nearby benchmark if your group needs a larger ballroom. For the final dinner, Barceloneta and Port Vell offer restaurants and venues for gala dinners.
