Why a hotel for your convention?
According to Turisme de Barcelona, in 2025 77.1% of meetings held in the city took place in hotels, and for corporate meetings the figure rises to 92.4%. The reason is practical: plenary, breakout rooms, meals and bedrooms in the same building reduce transfers, simplify logistics and make the budget more predictable. For a company convention, a sales kick-off or multi-day working meetings, it is the most common option.
How to choose the right hotel
These are the criteria we review before suggesting a hotel:
- Real plenary capacity. Published capacities are maximums. A wide stage, large screens or a classroom set-up greatly reduce usable capacity.
- Breakout rooms. Count how many simultaneous sessions you need and whether the main ballroom divides into sections.
- Bedrooms. Check whether the hotel can accommodate the whole group or whether it will need to be split across several nearby hotels.
- Location and transport. Airport, railway station, metro and distance to the evening venues.
- City calendar. During MWC, ISE or the major CCIB congresses, availability and prices change completely.
- Image and setting. On the seafront, in a business district or in a historic building: the location also sends a message.

What if your event outgrows a hotel?
Above roughly 1,000 to 1,500 people, or if you need an exhibition, the answer is usually a convention centre with hotels nearby. For more context, read our comparison of convention hotels or see how we organise congresses.
