Frequently asked questions
Here are the questions companies, associations and agencies ask us most often before organising an event in Barcelona: who we are, how we prepare a budget, how we choose venues and hotels, and what you need to know about congresses, incentives and logistics in the city.
About ECB
What is ECB?
ECB (Eventos Corporativos Barcelona) is part of MC Group and specialises in MICE: congresses, conventions, incentive travel, meetings and DMC services in Barcelona. The team has more than 20 years of experience organising events. More information in about us.
What is your relationship with Marca Condal?
Marca Condal is a sister company: ECB and Marca Condal are both part of MC Group, the Barcelona events group that brings together Marca Condal, Be Events Barcelona, Mr. Fenómeno and ECB. Within the group, ECB brings together congress, convention, incentive and meetings work in Barcelona.
What types of events do you organise?
Congresses, conventions and kick-offs, incentive travel, meetings and seminars, gala dinners, product launches, trade show events and DMC programmes for international groups. You will find every format compared, with its objective and typical length, in corporate events. Many projects combine several: a congress with a gala dinner or a convention with an incentive day.
Do you organise team building and Christmas dinners?
These formats are organised by our sister brand Be Events Barcelona, which specialises in company parties, Christmas dinners and team building. If the team activity is part of a convention or an incentive, we build it in at ECB. We explain how on team building.
Where is your office?
At Carrer de Castellnou, 39, 08017 Barcelona, in the upper part of the city. Visits are by appointment. The group also has offices in Madrid, London, Puebla and Mexico City, which makes it easier to work with clients in Europe and Latin America.
Which languages do you work in?
The team works in English and Spanish. For groups we coordinate guides, hosts and interpreters in other languages, such as French, German, Italian or Chinese. This website is available in Spanish, English, French, German and Chinese, so your participants can find the practical information in their own language.
Budget and contracting
How long do you take to send a proposal?
We send you a first proposal within 24 business hours of receiving the brief, with available venues, a recommended format and an initial estimate. If the event needs site visits or hotel blocks, we set out the next steps and deadlines in that same reply.
Is there a charge for the proposal?
No. The first proposal and initial venue visits are free and without obligation. Only when you decide to go ahead do we formalise the assignment and start contracting venues and suppliers on your behalf. Until then you can ask us for any adjustments you need.
What information do you need to prepare a budget?
The type of event, approximate dates, number of attendees and objective are enough to get started. If you also give us an indicative budget, whether accommodation is needed and which previous events serve as a reference, the proposal will be much more accurate from the outset.
Why do you not publish prices?
Because every event combines very different cost lines: venue, hotel, catering, AV, transfers, staffing and season. A generic price would confuse more than it would help. In our guide how much a convention in Barcelona costs we explain which cost lines weigh most and how to adjust them without losing quality.
How is the budget presented?
Itemised by cost line, so you can see what each part of the event costs and decide where to invest and where to adjust. When the project closes we send you the final accounts with the same breakdown, including any changes made along the way.
Should the tourist tax be included in the budget?
Yes, if there is accommodation. Barcelona's tourist tax is charged per person per night, varies with the category of establishment and went up in April 2026. With large groups and several nights it is a significant cost line. We explain it in our tourist tax guide for groups.
Venues and hotels
How do you choose the venue for an event?
We start from attendee numbers, format, dates and the event's message. Then we check real availability, rules of use, build times, catering exclusivities and access. We propose two or three options side by side so you can choose with all the information.
Are the capacities in your venue profiles reliable?
The capacities we publish come from each venue's official sources, which we cite in the profile. Even so, real capacity depends on the set-up: a room for 1,000 people theatre style holds considerably fewer for a banquet. We always check case by case. See venues.
Can we visit the venues before deciding?
Yes. We organise site inspections of venues and hotels, in person or by video if you are outside Barcelona. For international groups we usually fit the visits into one or two days so the trip is worthwhile. You are always accompanied by someone from our team who knows the venue and can answer technical set-up questions.
Do you handle room blocks?
Yes. We negotiate the block with the hotel, monitor the allocation and release dates, manage the rooming list and deal with last-minute changes. It is one of the parts with the greatest financial risk if it is not watched closely.
What is the largest convention centre in Barcelona?
The CCIB, by the sea in the Fòrum area, with 100,000 m² and capacity for 15,000 people. For trade shows and congresses with very large exhibitions there is also Fira Barcelona Gran Via. We compare them in our convention centre guide.
Can events be held in Gaudí buildings?
Yes, in some of them and with conditions. Buildings such as La Pedrera, Casa Batlló and Torre Bellesguard host private events, with limited capacities and strict conservation rules. We have produced an evening for Dataforce at La Pedrera and a Trend Micro workshop at Torre Bellesguard.
Congresses and incentives
Do you act as a PCO?
Yes. As a professional congress organiser we manage venue, technical secretariat, registration, housing, speakers, production and social programme, working with the organising and scientific committees. You can hire us for the full service or just some parts. We explain it in congress organisation.
How far ahead should a congress be organised?
For a large international congress, 18 to 36 months, because venues and hotels are booked well in advance. For a mid-sized national congress, 9 to 12 months. You will find the full timeline in our guide how to organise a congress in Barcelona.
How does Barcelona rank as a congress city?
In the 2025 ICCA ranking, published in May 2026, Barcelona was the third city in the world for international association meetings, behind Lisbon and Paris. In 2025 it hosted 1,992 meetings with 683,783 delegates, according to Turisme de Barcelona. More data on MICE Barcelona.
How many days should an incentive trip last?
Most programmes last three to four days. That is enough time for the city, a special dinner and an excursion outside Barcelona. For groups from other continents we recommend four or five days. See incentive travel.
Which extensions outside Barcelona do you recommend?
The Penedès for wineries and cava, Montserrat for a day of mountain and monastery, Sitges for the beach and dinner by the sea, and the Costa Brava for longer programmes. All are between 40 minutes and under two hours away by road.
Do you work as a DMC for overseas agencies?
Yes. Many agencies from other countries hire us as their local partner in Barcelona and present the programme to their client under their own brand. We prepare the proposal white label and our on-site team introduces itself as part of theirs. See DMC Barcelona.
Logistics and destination
When is the best time for an event in Barcelona?
Spring and autumn are the most sought-after seasons for their weather, and therefore the most expensive and with the least availability. It is best to avoid major trade show weeks. We go through it month by month in our guide to the best time for events in Barcelona.
Which weeks should we avoid?
Those of the major trade shows, when hotels raise their rates and venues sell out. In 2027, ISE runs from 2 to 5 February and MWC from 1 to 4 March, both at Fira Barcelona Gran Via. You will find the rest in the 2027 trade show calendar.
Do you handle airport transfers?
Yes. We arrange pick-ups at Barcelona El Prat airport and Sants station, with flight and train tracking on arrival day, coaches throughout the programme and private vehicles for executives and speakers. If a flight is delayed, we rearrange the pick-up without you having to let us know.
Can you organise events outside Barcelona city?
Yes, throughout Catalonia: hotels in Sitges, Penedès wineries, inland masias or the Costa Brava. We have organised conventions in Sitges for Edenred and Duscholux, and a leadership retreat in Les Gavarres, in Girona. We help you weigh up transfer times so the change of scene pays off.
How do you make an event more sustainable?
With concrete measures: venues well served by public transport, local suppliers, seasonal menus, less plastic and reusable materials, and donation of surplus food where possible. If you need it, we help you measure the event's footprint. We explain it in our guide to sustainable events in Barcelona.
What happens if it rains on the day of the event?
Every outdoor activity has a plan B booked from the outset: an indoor room, a marquee or an alternative time. We decide in advance at what time it is triggered and how it is communicated to attendees, so the change involves no improvisation.
