Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc: historic halls next to Plaça d'Espanya

Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc is the city's historic exhibition centre, built for the 1929 International Exhibition at the foot of Montjuïc. It offers 153,000 gross m² of exhibition space across seven halls and includes the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona. We suggest it for exhibitions, product launches and brand events with a distinctive architectural setting.

What kind of events does Fira Montjuïc suit?

Montjuïc offers something Gran Via does not: architecture. Its 1929 halls, with wide naves and plenty of height, are a great base for product launches, brand parties, conventions with theatrical staging and mid-sized sector exhibitions. Inside the site is the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, with an auditorium of more than 1,600 seats, so you can combine content sessions and exhibition at the same venue.

Spaces and capacities

Fira lists 153,000 gross m² of exhibition space across seven halls, around 1,900 parking spaces nearby and 15 restaurants. Among the historic halls, the Pabellón Italiano (Pavelló Italià) stands out, with a very versatile open-plan nave. The capacity of each hall depends on the set-up: in our proposals we always work from the technical floor plan Fira provides for the specific space and dates. The figures in the data panel come from Fira's website.

Getting there

The venue is on Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, at the foot of Montjuïc and a few steps from Plaça d'Espanya. The metro (L1 and L3), Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat and the Aerobús all stop there. Fira runs a connection between Montjuïc and Gran Via for events that use both venues.

Production tips

  • Check the status of each hall. With the redevelopment under study, confirm which spaces are available, and under what conditions, for your dates.
  • Make the most of the architecture. In historic halls, well-designed architectural lighting adds more than heavy staging.
  • Plan heating and cooling. Large, tall naves need a climate control plan suited to the season and the number of guests.
  • Build Montjuïc into the programme. The hill's museums, gardens and viewpoints are a few minutes away for drinks receptions or gala dinners.

What works well nearby

The InterContinental Barcelona, next to the venue, and the Barceló Sants, two metro stops away on the L3, cover accommodation. On the slopes of Montjuïc, the Hotel Miramar is an option for VIP groups. Compare venues in Barcelona's convention centres.

Montjuïc is the historic venue, next to Plaça d'Espanya, with 153,000 m² and seven halls. Gran Via, in L'Hospitalet, is the modern 240,000 m² venue where the major international trade shows are held.

What is the Pabellón Italiano?

It is one of the venue's historic halls, built for the 1929 Exhibition. Its open-plan nave is used for presentations, conventions and trade show side events.

Is the Montjuïc venue going to change?

Fira is studying a redevelopment project to adapt the venue to new cultural and exhibition uses, with 2029, the centenary of the Exhibition, as the horizon. It is worth confirming the availability of each hall when booking.
