What kind of events does the InterContinental suit?
Its location is its main selling point: at the foot of Montjuïc, a few steps from Fira de Montjuïc and the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, and well connected to Fira Gran Via. It suits corporate congresses of up to 1,000 people, conventions with a plenary and breakout rooms, and client meetings or dinners during trade show weeks.
Rooms and capacities
The hotel lists 3,000 m² of meeting space across 22 soundproofed rooms, with capacity for 1,000 people theatre-style and 600 for a gala dinner. The main ballroom is the Verdi. For drinks and receptions there is the 173 Rooftop Terrace, on the hotel roof. The official specifications do not give floor areas for each room, so we request the technical floor plan for every proposal. With 273 bedrooms, the hotel can accommodate a good part of a mid-sized convention. If the group is larger, the usual approach is to split the room block with other hotels around Plaça d'Espanya and the Gran Via.
Getting there
It is at Avinguda de Rius i Taulet, 1-3, next to Plaça d'Espanya. Espanya station (metro L1 and L3, and FGC) is a few minutes' walk away. The link to Fira Gran Via is direct along the Gran Via, by metro or shuttle.
Production tips
- Make use of the proximity to the Fira. For a congress at the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, the hotel works as accommodation and a venue for satellite meetings within walking distance.
- Book early in trade show weeks. Montjuïc and Plaça d'Espanya see heavy demand during the major Fira shows.
- Plan rooftop drinks carefully. The terrace is outdoors with limited capacity: confirm numbers and an indoor alternative.
- Use Montjuïc for the social programme. The hill's museums, viewpoints and unique venues are a few minutes away for a gala dinner.
What works well nearby
On the same hill are the Hotel Miramar Barcelona, with function rooms opening onto gardens and views over the port, and the historic halls of Fira de Montjuïc. Towards L'Hospitalet, the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower offers a larger ballroom if the group grows.
