What kind of events does the CCIB suit?
The CCIB is the natural home of Barcelona's large international congresses: medical, scientific and technology events of 2,000 to 15,000 delegates, with a plenary, dozens of breakout sessions, an exhibition and posters. It also hosts large-scale company conventions and gala dinners that no hotel can seat in a single room.
Spaces and capacities
The complex has two buildings linked by an underground passage: the Centre de Convencions and the Auditori Fòrum. Together they offer around 100,000 m², 46 rooms, ceilings of up to 12 m and capacity for 15,000 delegates.
- Auditori Fòrum: 3,084 seats across 7,632 m², with a 1,890 m² foyer and 10 dressing rooms.
- Level P0: 15,100 m² in 8 rooms, for 10,000 people. This is the level for large plenaries and exhibitions.
- Level P1: 8,494 m² in 23 rooms, for 4,609 people. Most breakout sessions take place here.
- Level P2: 4,540 m² and 3 rooms, including the 1,665 m² Banquet Hall with sea views.
Fira de Barcelona, which now includes it among its venues, also lists 3,000 m² of catering space and kitchens. All figures come from the CCIB and Fira websites.
Getting there
It is at Plaça de Willy Brandt, 11-14, at the end of the Diagonal. The metro stops at El Maresme | Fòrum (L4) and the T4 tram stops at Fòrum, in front of the Auditori. From the airport, the CCIB estimates around 25 minutes by road, a distance of 22 km. It has no car park of its own: there are five public car parks nearby.
Production tips
- Plan the hotel room block alongside the venue. For large congresses, accommodation within walking distance of the CCIB sells out before the meeting rooms.
- Design the flows between buildings. The underground passage between the Centre de Convencions and the Auditori is convenient but adds minutes: build them into the running order between plenary and breakouts.
- Manage mass arrivals. With thousands of delegates, stagger registration and badge collection, and spread out coach pick-up points.
- Ask about included and exclusive services. Before budgeting, check which services (catering, AV, set-up) the centre handles itself and which allow external suppliers.
