Institut d'Estudis Catalans: meeting rooms in the Casa de Convalescència

The Institut d'Estudis Catalans is based in the Casa de Convalescència, a baroque building that was part of the former Hospital de la Santa Creu, in the Raval. It hires out a cloister for 220 people and seven rooms for 15 to 156 people. We suggest it for academic and corporate conferences, seminars and institutional meetings.

What kind of events does the IEC suit?

The Casa de Convalescència is a 17th-century building with a cloister, tiles and grand rooms, right in the city centre. The IEC opens it to institutional, academic and cultural events, and it works very well for company meetings and seminars, scientific conferences, medical society sessions, report launches and awards ceremonies. The cloister allows drinks or a break with plenty of character within the same day, and it can host a small congress.

Getting there

Carrer del Carme, 47, in the Raval, a few minutes from La Rambla. Liceu (L3) and Plaça de Catalunya (L1 and L3) metro stations. The building has no parking, only a loading area, so groups arrive on foot from the nearest coach stop or from their hotels.

Production tips

  • Fixed capacities. No chairs are added above the authorised capacity. Choose a room with some margin if you expect late registrations.
  • Loading and unloading. With no parking, set-up happens in loading windows. We coordinate times with the IEC and suppliers.
  • Cloister and weather. The cloister is open-air. For drinks or breaks, plan an indoor alternative in winter or if it rains.
  • Discounts. Non-profit organisations running free activities may get a discount on the room rate, not on extra services.

What works well nearby

A few minutes away you have the Reial Cercle Artístic and the Ateneu Barcelonès, useful if you need more parallel rooms. For dinner, Fàbrica Moritz in Sant Antoni or the Drassanes Reials at the end of La Rambla.
