What kind of events does it suit?
The Drassanes naves are among the few Gothic spaces in Europe where you can seat several hundred people under stone arches. That makes them work very well as the closing event of an international congress or as the big gala dinner of a company convention. They also suit product launches looking for a historic backdrop and plenty of clear height.
Rooms and capacities
According to the museum's venue hire brochure:
- Sala Gran (hypostyle hall): 1,700 m², capacities of up to 920 people depending on format. Available from 10 am to 1 am.
- Grada Major: 650 m² outdoors, 800 people, from 8 pm to 10 pm. The restaurant terrace is not included in the hire.
- Jardí del Museu: 165 m², 108 people for a drinks reception, from 9 am to 7 pm.
- Auditori and Botigues de la Generalitat: additional spaces for sessions and exhibitions; capacities to be confirmed depending on the current exhibition.
The included services listed by the museum are a museum representative, air conditioning, power points and security. The venue data panel on this page summarises only the verified figures.
Getting there
The building is on Avinguda de les Drassanes, at the end of La Rambla and opposite the Columbus monument. Drassanes metro (L3). Coaches can stop on the avenue, which makes it easy for large groups to arrive from the waterfront hotels.
Production tips
- Respect the time slots. The Grada Major is available from 8 pm to 10 pm. If you want an outdoor reception and a long dinner, hold the drinks outside and the dinner in the Sala Gran.
- Sound and performances. No PA in the Grada Major and prior authorisation for live music. We build this into the permit schedule from the start.
- Live exhibition. The museum is a working one: the set-up shares the space with exhibits and display cases. The site visit is used to fix catering routes and backstage areas.
- Lighting. The naves respond well to warm architectural lighting; with little equipment you completely change how the space feels.
What works well nearby
A two-night programme that works for us: welcome at Llotja de Mar and farewell here, the approach we followed at the WSEI congress. For daytime sessions, the World Trade Center Barcelona is a few minutes' walk away, and El Born Centre de Cultura is another historic option for large groups.
