MWC and ISE 2027: dates and scale
Barcelona's two major technology trade shows fall in the first quarter and use the same venue. If your company exhibits or your clients attend, show week is the best opportunity of the year to bring them together in the city.
| Show | 2027 dates | Venue | Latest edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) | 2 to 5 February 2027 | Fira Barcelona Gran Via | 2026: 92,170 visitors, 1,751 exhibitors, 101,000 m² |
| MWC Barcelona | 1 to 4 March 2027 | Fira Barcelona Gran Via | 2026: almost 105,000 attendees from 207 countries and territories, 2,900 exhibitors, sponsors and partners |
MWC has been held in Barcelona since 2006, and in 2022 the GSMA agreed to keep it in the city until 2030. At the 2026 edition, 17% of attendees were C-level and a further 45% were director level or above. That is the profile that private dinners and meetings during show week are designed to reach.
For the rest of the year, see the Barcelona trade show calendar 2027.
Which event formats work during the show?
During MWC, your guests have a full schedule from eight in the morning. The formats that work best are the ones that fit into the gaps and give them something the exhibition hall cannot: time, conversation and a comfortable place to sit.
| Format | Typical size | Recommended time slot | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive breakfast or briefing | 15 to 60 people | 7:30 to 9:00 | Hotel near Fira or in the city centre |
| Hospitality suite | Continuous flow | All day | Hotel suite or room, temporary office |
| Business meetings | 2 to 12 people per room | During show hours | Meeting rooms next to the venue |
| Client round table | 10 to 30 people | Midday or late afternoon | Private room in a hotel or restaurant |
| Private client dinner | 20 to 120 people | From 20:00 | Restaurant on exclusive hire or unique venue |
| Networking reception | 100 to 600 people | 19:00 to 22:00 | Unique venue or rooftop |
| Partner party | 300 people or more | From 21:00 | Large unique venue |
| Launch or demo | Variable | Afternoon | Showroom or venue with AV production, see product launches |
A few ideas from our experience:
- Small dinners convert better. A table of 24 with your key clients delivers more than a party for 400 competing with ten others on the same night.
- Breakfast is the least contested slot. Before the halls open, senior executives do not yet have a packed schedule.
- Near Fira or in the centre, but not halfway between. Either guests walk over from the venue, or they go somewhere worth the journey.
- A realistic arrival time. Allow for people leaving the venue, stopping at their hotel and then arriving. A dinner called for 20:30 starts at 21:00.
Booking timeline: 12 months ahead
MWC week gets booked while the previous show is still fresh in everyone's mind. This is the timeline we follow:
| Before MWC | Action |
|---|---|
| 12 months (March of the previous year) | Set format and capacity. Room block. Book the venue for the main night |
| 9 to 10 months | Contract catering, AV production and set design |
| 6 months | Coaches and drivers, hosts, interpreters, photography |
| 4 months | Invitation design and registration platform |
| 3 months | Send invitations to clients and partners |
| 6 weeks | Reminder, guest list and dietary requirements |
| 2 weeks | Final running order and transport plan |
| Show week | Team on site, access control and last-minute changes |
For ISE the timeline is the same, brought forward by one month.
What sells out first?
In this order, based on what we see every year:
- Hotels near Fira Gran Via and in the city centre. Exhibitor room blocks come in very early.
- Large unique venues on Monday to Wednesday nights. For example, the Sala Oval at the MNAC holds up to 1,400 people for a cocktail reception and 1,200 for a banquet; the Llotja de Mar, up to 640 for a cocktail reception in the Salón de Contrataciones. They are the first to be taken.
- Private rooms in well-known restaurants. Many are booked for several nights in a row.
- Technical equipment and staff. AV crews, technicians, hosts and interpreters work at full capacity that week.
- Coaches and chauffeur-driven vehicles. Especially for dinner departures.
If you are late, the alternative is to change the format (a lunch instead of a dinner, a breakfast instead of a cocktail reception) or the night (the Sunday before works well for teams who arrive early).
Where to hold your event during MWC
| Need | Options | Points to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Walking distance from the venue | Hotels and rooms next to Fira Gran Via, Porta Fira | Very limited availability; book early |
| Half-day working meeting | Convention hotels and meeting rooms | Rooms with natural light and dedicated wifi |
| Dinner with impact | MNAC, Llotja de Mar, Drassanes Reials, La Pedrera | Each venue's set-up times and event end time |
| Large reception with views | Castell de Montjuïc, Poble Espanyol | Coach transfers and a wet-weather plan B |
| Seafront hotel | Hotel Arts, W Barcelona | Distance to the venue at rush hour |
Each venue has its own rules. At the Drassanes, for example, the Grada Major is available from 20:00 to 22:00 according to the museum's dossier, and at La Pedrera full-day hire is capped at 10 hours. We compare them by capacity in our guide to unique venues in Barcelona by capacity.
How to set up a hospitality suite that works
A hospitality suite is a base outside the exhibition hall: a quiet place where your team receives clients, closes meetings and rests between visits. What makes it useful:
- Location. A hotel next to the venue for quick meetings, or in the centre if your guests are staying there and you prefer to meet at the end of the day.
- Layout. A reception area, two or three meeting spaces with doors and a coffee area. Several small rooms are better than one large one.
- Shared schedule. A room booking system your whole team can see, with 30 or 45 minute slots.
- Continuous catering. Coffee, water and something savoury mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Without relying on room service.
- Technology. Your own stable wifi, a screen in every room, chargers and a printer.
- A receptionist who knows the names of the day's guests and alerts the host.
If you also want a product demo with AV production, we cover it in our guide to product launches in Barcelona.
A typical MWC week for your team
| Day | Time slot | Suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Afternoon | Team arrival, internal briefing and team dinner |
| Monday | 7:30 | Executive breakfast with key clients |
| Monday | Evening | Main client dinner (the most contested night) |
| Tuesday | Midday | Round table with press or analysts |
| Tuesday | Evening | Networking reception with partners |
| Wednesday | All day | Meetings in the hospitality suite |
| Wednesday | Evening | Small dinner with a specific group of clients |
| Thursday | Morning | Final meetings; on the last day the show's transport services end in the early afternoon |
You do not have to do everything. Pick one or two moments and do them well.
Budget lines that change most during show week
We do not publish rates, but we can tell you which budget lines move the most when the city is full, so you can factor them in:
- Accommodation. The line most sensitive to dates. Negotiate room block release terms in writing.
- Venues. Some apply special conditions during show weeks or require minimum spends.
- Staff and technical. AV crews, technicians, hosts and interpreters are booked for the whole week.
- Transport. Coaches and chauffeur-driven vehicles are booked by the full day.
- Tourist tax. Charged per person per night according to the accommodation category. We explain it in our guide to the tourist tax for groups.
Getting around during the show
The MWC organisers recommend public transport as the fastest way to and from the venue, and warn of roadworks, diversions and congestion on road access. What you need to know:
- Transport pass. Registered MWC and 4YFN attendees receive an unlimited zone 1 pass for metro, bus and FGC, including one journey to or from the airport. It can be collected at the airport (T1, T2B and T2C), at Fira Gran Via and at the Plaça Espanya FGC station.
- Metro. L9 to Fira station and L10 to Foc, next to the north entrance. From the centre, change at Collblanc or Torrassa.
- Electric shuttle between the north entrance and Plaça Espanya, and buses H12 and V3.
- Taxis. A rank at the north entrance with its own hours during show days.
- Hotel shuttles. A free service on show days for hotels with poor public transport links, stopping at the north entrance.
For your event:
- If your event is in the centre, remind guests of the nearest metro stop; many already have the pass.
- If your event is outside the metro network, run coaches from a fixed pick-up point with staggered departures and a clear last return.
- Taxis are scarce when the halls close. For VIP guests, book chauffeur-driven vehicles.
Timings: dinner cannot start at 22:00
People dine late in Spain, usually between 20:00 and 22:30. During MWC your guests have meetings at 8:00 the next day. We recommend:
- Reception at 19:30 or 20:00 and seated dinner at 20:30.
- Short speeches, before the main course.
- A planned finish at 23:00 with return transport organised.
Permits, branding and security
- Show branding. Your event is private. Check the GSMA or ISE brand guidelines before using their names or logos on your invitation.
- Public space. A street activation, a marquee or a projection on a façade requires municipal authorisation weeks in advance.
- Capacity and security. Each venue has its authorised capacity and its own emergency plan. We work with security staff and access control against a named guest list.
- Noise and timings. Many heritage venues have a fixed closing time and sound limits. We confirm them before planning the music.
What about during ISE?
ISE takes place one month before MWC, from 2 to 5 February 2027, at the same venue. Almost everything above applies, with a few differences:
- Audience. AV and systems integrators, installers, manufacturers and distributors. Channel events (partners and installers) work particularly well.
- Formats. As well as dinners, formats with technical content and an element of play fit well. For Logitech, for example, we organised an installers' world cup during ISE week and themed parties for partners.
- Production. The audience are AV professionals: the quality of your event's image, sound and lighting will be scrutinised.
- February. Evenings are cool. If you are considering a terrace or an outdoor space, plan for heating and an indoor alternative.
Our experience during show weeks
We have produced client events during major trade shows in Barcelona:
- Logitech at the Llotja de Mar during ISE 2025: brand lighting, show cooking, cocktails and a stage.
