Unique venues in Barcelona by capacity: from 20 to more than 2,000 people

To choose a unique venue in Barcelona, start with the capacity in the format you need: a reception, a banquet and theatre style do not hold the same numbers. Here you will find museums, Modernista buildings, Gothic halls and Montjuïc venues sorted into four bands, with capacities taken from each venue's official dossier and production tips.

Unique venues in Barcelona by capacity: from 20 to more than 2,000 people

How to read a unique venue's capacity

The capacity figure in a dossier answers one specific question: how many people fit in that format with the room empty. Before comparing venues, be clear about three things.

Format What it means Relative occupancy
Reception (cocktail) Standing, with poseur tables and passed service Holds the most people
Banquet Seated at round or banqueting tables for lunch or dinner Holds the fewest
Theatre Rows of chairs facing a stage In between
Classroom Rows of tables and chairs Fewer than theatre

Then subtract what you are going to build. A stage with a screen, the control booth, bars, a buffet, a dance floor, a photocall or a comfortable service aisle all take away places. That is why every proposal we send includes a scale floor plan with the actual set-up, not the theoretical capacity.

The capacities in this guide come from each venue's official dossiers and websites (linked in the sources) and from the Barcelona Convention Bureau. They can change; we always confirm them with the venue before booking.

Tip. In this band, what makes the difference is exclusivity: the group having the space to itself. At Torre Bellesguard we organised a workshop for Trend Micro with talks, a panel discussion and breaks overlooking the city. The Torre de Collserola, where we produced Esteve's Lights in the Sky dinner, is another option for small groups; it does not publish capacities, so we confirm them with the venue for each format.

Tip. This is the most common band for incentives and client dinners. Sant Pau and La Pedrera let you combine a visit and dinner in the same place, which groups appreciate. That is what we did with Dataforce at La Pedrera: a tour with a costumed character, the attic, music and a private dinner. If you are looking for ideas by group profile, see our incentive itineraries.

300 to 800 people

Tip. This is where convention dinners and trade fair events begin. Llotja de Mar is one of the venues where we have worked most: the WSEI congress dinner, the Greentech gala and Logitech's events during ISE 2025. At the Castell de Montjuïc we organised the Becerril, Coca & Becerril evening during INTA. At outdoor venues, a wet-weather plan B is not optional.

More than 800 people

Space Venue Area m² Reception Banquet Theatre Best format
Sala Oval MNAC Montjuïc 1,600 1,400 1,200 1,400 Gala, concert, anniversary
Plaza Mayor Poble Espanyol Montjuïc 2,043 2,800 1,200 1,800 Partner party, concert (5,200)
Sala Gran Drassanes Reials (Museu Marítim) Ciutat Vella 1,700 800 to 920 depending on format

Tip. With more than 800 people, the venue is only one part. The logistics weigh as much or more: staggered coach arrivals, cloakroom, number of bars and service times. In the Sala Oval at MNAC we produced Noatum's 60th anniversary gala dinner, with an express set-up adapted to the museum's rules. For galas of this size, see also our guide to gala dinners for large groups. If the event is a congress with a plenary, the unique venue is usually the dinner; the main venue will be a convention centre (see our convention centres comparison).

Schedules and restrictions that change the format

Venue Published restriction What it means
Drassanes, Grada Major Use from 20:00 to 22:00 A punctual dinner without a long after-dinner
Drassanes, Sala Gran Use from 10:00 to 1:00 Allows a dinner with a reception and a party
Drassanes, Jardí Use from 9:00 to 19:00 Daytime activities only
La Pedrera Full day capped at 10 hours Set-up and breakdown count within that time
Castell de Montjuïc Indoor rooms up to 50 people The large capacity is in the outdoor spaces

Beyond what is published, almost all heritage venues have rules on naked flames, cooking on site, fixings on walls, sound levels and set-up times. We ask for them in writing at the first technical visit.

Venues by area

Area Venues in this guide Advantage What to plan for
Montjuïc MNAC, Poble Espanyol, Castell de Montjuïc, Fundació Joan Miró Large capacities and views, close to Fira Montjuïc Coach transfers and wind at outdoor spaces
Ciutat Vella and waterfront Llotja de Mar, Drassanes Reials History, walking distance from central hotels Vehicle and loading access
Eixample La Pedrera, Casa Batlló Gaudí on Passeig de Gràcia Small capacities; schedules to be confirmed with each house
Upper city Torre Bellesguard, Torre de Collserola, Sant Pau Calm, gardens and views Journey time and coach manoeuvring

Which venue for which event objective

Capacity filters, but the objective decides. This is the matching we use when making proposals:

Objective Recommended format Venues that usually fit
Reward a team (incentive) Private visit and dinner in the same place La Pedrera, Sant Pau, Casa Batlló
Impress international clients Reception with views and a seated dinner MNAC, Llotja de Mar, Torre de Collserola
Celebrate a company anniversary Gala with a stage and entertainment Sala Oval at MNAC, Llotja de Mar, Drassanes
Launch a product Theatre style and a demo area Auditori at La Pedrera, Lasala at Poble Espanyol, the Marquee at Poble Espanyol
Bring a leadership committee together Private room with natural light and a garden Torre Bellesguard, rooms at Sant Pau
Host hundreds of people during a trade fair Standing reception with several bars Llotja de Mar, Castell de Montjuïc, Plaza Mayor at Poble Espanyol

What venue hire usually includes and what it does not

Each venue has its own terms, but always check these points in the offer:

  • Usually included: use of the space during the contracted hours, basic cleaning, building security and a venue coordinator. At Poble Espanyol, for example, hire of the Marquee and the Monastery includes cleaning, security, coordination and reception; at the Castell de Montjuïc, the municipal prices include ordinary utilities, security and cleaning.
  • Usually extra: catering (often from suppliers approved by the venue), furniture, lighting and sound, stage, decoration, floor staff, cloakroom and additional security.
  • May have its own conditions: overtime, set-up the day before, use of outdoor areas, photography or filming for commercial purposes.

Get everything in writing before comparing. Two offers for the same amount can include very different things.

How to choose: five steps

  1. Fix the main format. Seated dinner, reception or presentation? Capacity varies a lot between formats.
  2. Allow for the set-up. Stage, screens and bars take away places. Ask for a floor plan.
  3. Compare schedules. A venue that closes at 22:00 will not work for a dinner followed by a party.
  4. Check the arrival logistics. Coaches, cloakroom, accessibility.
  5. Book with time to spare. In major trade fair weeks, large venues are booked months in advance. We explain this in events during MWC.

Checklist for the technical visit

  • Capacity by format confirmed in writing
  • Floor plan with dimensions and rigging points
  • Set-up, event and breakdown times
  • Available power supply and need for a generator
  • Kitchen or back-of-house area for the caterer
  • Sound restrictions and time music must stop
  • Accessibility for people with reduced mobility
  • Access and parking for coaches and lorries
  • Rules on decoration, flames and fixings
  • Wet-weather plan B for outdoor spaces
  • Insurance and documentation required by the venue

How we help you

We know these venues from the inside and know what works in each one. We propose two or three options with floor plans, schedules and an itemised budget, and handle the booking, production and coordination on the day. You can see more options in unique venues and in our general directory of event venues, and the event format in gala dinners.

Tell us the date, the number of guests and the format. We will reply with venue options within 24 business hours via our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

Which unique venue in Barcelona has the largest capacity?

Among the venues in this guide, the Plaza Mayor at Poble Espanyol holds the most: 2,800 people for a reception and 1,200 for a banquet. Indoors, the Sala Oval at MNAC holds up to 1,400 people for a reception or theatre style and 1,200 for a banquet.

Where can I hold a gala dinner for 400 people in Barcelona?

Some options with official figures: the Saló de Contractacions at Llotja de Mar (up to 430 for a banquet), the Sala Oval at MNAC (up to 1,200), the Grada Major at the Drassanes (800 for a dinner) or the Plaza Mayor at Poble Espanyol (1,200). The choice depends on the staging, the date and the closing time.

Which unique venue suits a group of 50 people?

For small groups, the glass-walled room at Torre Bellesguard (80 theatre style), the Sala Quatre Gats at La Pedrera (40 for a banquet), the Sala Sert at MNAC (35) or the smaller halls at Llotja de Mar work well. There are also private rooms at Casa Batlló, with capacity on request.

Why is the real capacity lower than the one in the dossier?

Because the dossier gives the maximum for an empty room. A stage, screens, a technical booth, bars, a dance floor or wider tables reduce the number of places. We always draw a scale floor plan before confirming.

Do heritage venues have a closing time?

Almost all of them. At the Drassanes, the Grada Major is available from 20:00 to 22:00 and the Sala Gran until 1:00; at La Pedrera full-day hire is capped at 10 hours. The schedule shapes the format of the event.

Have you worked at these venues?

Yes, at several: Noatum's gala dinner in the Sala Oval at MNAC, the WSEI congress with dinners at Llotja de Mar and the Drassanes, Logitech and Greentech events at Llotja, Trend Micro at Bellesguard, Esteve at the Torre de Collserola, Dataforce at La Pedrera and Becerril at the Castell de Montjuïc.
